150 pages Nihonga-style paintings from the late 19th Century through the 1920s. Nihonga is a style of Japanese painting, usually on silk or paper, using natural pigments and ink. Landscapes, animals, people and surreal scenes are just some of what’s featured in this eclectic collection of art. Although Nihonga was meant as a distinctly Japanese style, elements of surrealism, cubism and impressionism are prominent in many of the works.
The book is an historic item showing how this then-eclipsing art movement was received and interpreted in 1968 Japan.
